Construction-related activities on the new Washington Bridge have been ongoing since June, with design, soil sampling, geographic surveying, permit applications, and the ordering of materials. Over the next two weeks, crews using boring equipment will be operating on the East Providence shore and on the water. No lane closures are required for this work.
Weather permitting, next week we are scheduled to close up to two lanes for continued bridge preventative maintenance activities on I-195 West at the Washington Bridge, Sunday, Monday and Tuesday nights, December 28-30, and after the new year, Sunday-Thursday nights, January 4-8, 2026, from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. We also expect alternating right lane closures for a bridge inspection on I-195 East and West at the Washington Bridge, Monday night, January 5, 2026, from 10 p.m. to 3 a.m.
The approved in-water demolition has been completed to the required elevations. Next week, demolition crews will be doing post-completion inspections and cleanup. Turbidity curtains will remain in place during this time.
