In-water construction continues at the Washington Bridge Rebuild project during daytime hours. Crews are also continuing foundation work for the west abutment.
We are installing 32 drilled shafts that will form the foundation of the new bridge. Each shaft will extend approximately 130 feet to bedrock, creating a support system for the bridge’s piers and abutments. Vibration and noise monitoring as well as erosion control are in place.
Up to two lanes will be closed for preventative bridge maintenance on I-195 West, from South Water Street to I-95 South, Sunday-Thursday nights, September 13-17, from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m.
Bridge preservation work at the Providence River (Iway) Bridge will involve up to two lanes closed on I-195 West, from just before the Iway Bridge to just after Exit 1B (Eddy Street), Sunday-Thursday nights, September 13-17, from 9 p.m. to 1 a.m. It also will require ramp narrowing on I-195 West, at Exit 1B (Eddy Street), Sunday-Thursday nights, September 13-17, from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m., and a right lane closure on I-195 West, before and after Exit 1B (Eddy Street), Sunday-Thursday nights, September 13-17, from 1 a.m. to 5 a.m. The week after, expect up to two lanes closed on I-195 West, from just before the Providence River (Iway) Bridge to just past Exit 1B (Eddy Street) and on I-95 North, from just before Thurbers and Allens avenues to the I-195 split, Sunday-Thursday nights, September 20-24, from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m.
