Project Update 03-06-2026 1920 1080 Washington Bridge Rebuild

Construction-related activities continue on the Washington Bridge Rebuild project, with design, survey, permit applications, the ordering of materials and mobilization of equipment.

On Sunday-Thursday nights, March 8-12, from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. motorists can expect overnight alternating two-lane closures for inspection and preconstruction design activities on I-195 West, from Exit 2 (Broadway) to Exit 1C (South Main Street), and I-195 East, from Exit 1A (India Street) to Exit 2A (Broadway/Warren Avenue). We’ll also have short duration closures for preconstruction design activities on I-195 and two ramps. These will take place approximately 10 minutes per closure within the same project limits along I-195 during the early morning hours, Monday-Friday, March 9-13, from 1 a.m. to 3 a.m. and at the on ramps from Gano Street and Broadway to I-195 West, during the early morning hours, Monday, March 9 from 1 a.m. to 3 a.m.

An inspection for the Providence River Bridge will require alternating lane closures along both directions of I-195, from I-95 to the India Point Park Pedestrian Bridge, Sunday-Thursday nights, March 8-12 from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m.

On Tuesday and Thursday nights, March 10 and 12, and 17 and 19, from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m., weather permitting, maintenance crews are scheduled to sweep the interstate, ramps and bridges along I-195, in a moving operation from I-95 to the Massachusetts line.

The approved in-water demolition has been completed to the required elevations. Next week, demolition crews will be continuing post-completion inspections and demobilization.
