Project Update 07-10-2026

In-water construction continues at this project during daytime hours. Crews also are continuing work on establishing a construction platform in the river on the Providence shoreline to support foundation work.

We are installing 32 drilled shafts that will form the foundation of the new bridge. Each shaft will extend approximately 130 feet to bedrock, creating a support system for the bridge’s piers and abutments. Vibration and noise monitoring as well as erosion control are in place.

Next week, we have various activities scheduled on the I-195 corridor from I-95 to the Massachusetts line. On Sunday – Thursday nights, July 12 – 17, from 8 p.m. – 3 a.m., we need to close the right lane on I-195 West over the Providence River (Iway) Bridge for ongoing bridge preservation work.

On Sunday and Monday nights, July 12 – 13, from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m., we’ll have alternating single lane closures in a moving operation in both directions on I-195, from the India Point Park Pedestrian Bridge in Providence to Waterfront Drive in East Providence for preventative maintenance on the Weigh-In-Motion (WHM) and Structural Health Monitoring (SHM) systems.

We have three operations taking place on Tuesday night, July 14. At I-195 West at the top of the on-ramp from Gano Street, from 9 p.m. to 11:30 p.m., we need to narrow the lanes to make repairs to the electronic overhead message board. On I-195 West over the Washington Bridge, we’ll have up to two lanes closed for bridge preventative maintenance activities from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. On I-195 East, from Exit 2C to the Massachusetts line, we need to close the right lane for drainage structure repairs, from 9 p.m. to 4 a.m.
