Project Update 05-15-2026 1920 1080 Washington Bridge Rebuild

Construction-related activities continue on the Washington Bridge Rebuild project, with design, survey, site preparation, the ordering of materials, and mobilization of equipment.

Starting on Monday, the design-build contractor will begin installing piles in the laydown area adjacent to Gano Street to construct a pier that will be used to provide equipment access to the water once construction begins on the bridge later this spring. Work will take place on weekdays, 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. Vibration and noise monitoring as well as erosion control will be in place.

Bridge preservation work at the Providence River (Iway) Bridge along I-195 West, from Exit 1C to Exit 1A, is scheduled next week. Expect one right lane to be closed from 8 p.m. to 10 p.m., and two right lanes to be closed from 10 p.m. to 4 a.m., Sunday and Monday night, May 17-18. On Tuesday and Wednesday night, May 19 and 20, expect one right lane to be closed from 8 p.m. to 10 p.m. and the closure of the two middle lanes for this work from 10 p.m. to 4 a.m. On Thursday night, May 21, expect one left lane to be closed from 8 p.m. to 10 p.m., followed by the closure of the two left lanes from 10 p.m. to 4 a.m.

Also on Wednesday night, May 20, we need to close the right lane on I-195 East, from the Potter Street overpass to the Lyons Avenue overpass, to remove a fallen tree between the hours of 9 p.m. and 4 p.m.
